On Sunday, 23 November 2025, the Department of Translation at the College of Languages, Nawroz University, organized a seminar entitled: World Englishes; One Language, Many Voices
The seminar was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Zirak Akram Jabar in the presence of a number of academics and lecturers.
The seminar explored the phenomenon of World Englishes and the global evolution of the language. It examined three main ideas: the distinct grammatical and phonological features of different English varieties (such as Indian, Nigerian, Chinese and Singaporean English); the sociolinguistic implications of using English as a global lingua franca; and the profound impact of these diverse voices on identity and cross-cultural communication.
At the end of the seminar, participants engaged in a discussion and exchanged ideas and questions related to language variation, the future of global English, and the vital role of translation in bridging these diverse linguistic landscapes.
