Nawroz University President Meets Kurdistan Regional Government Representation Officials in Washington

As part of a series of meetings held during his participation in NAFSA 2026 in the United States, the President of Nawroz University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mevan Arif Abdulrahman, met with officials of the Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in Washington, including Ms. Tara Hamawandi, Chief of Staff, and Mr. Dasko Shirwani, Advisor.

The meeting focused on a number of higher education issues and explored ways to strengthen cooperation between Nawroz University and American academic institutions. Discussions also addressed mechanisms for supporting Kurdish students interested in pursuing higher education in the United States and benefiting from available academic opportunities.

The two sides further discussed the importance of strengthening connections between higher education institutions in the Kurdistan Region and American universities, encouraging initiatives that contribute to academic and professional development, and expanding opportunities for international cooperation.

Both parties emphasized the importance of maintaining communication and coordination in support of higher education in the Kurdistan Region, creating broader academic opportunities for students and researchers, and enhancing the international presence of Kurdish higher education institutions.
