The Department of Translation at the College of Languages, Nawroz University, organized a scientific seminar on Sunday, September 20, 2026, titled “The Intersection of Pragmatics and Rhetoric in Poetic Discourse.” The seminar was presented by Assistant Lecturer Baravan Waheed Hassan at Faqi Tayran Hall.
The seminar explored the relationship between pragmatics and rhetoric in the analysis of poetic discourse, highlighting that both disciplines share a fundamental concern with meaning. While pragmatics focuses on speakers’ intentions and the context in which discourse is produced, rhetoric examines the aesthetic qualities of expression and its effect on the audience.
The seminar also highlighted how these two dimensions intersect in poetic discourse and how combining pragmatic and rhetorical approaches can contribute to a deeper understanding and analysis of literary texts.
