College of Languages, Department of Translation, Nawroz University will hold a scientific seminar titled " British and American Spelling Choices in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Writing " Presented by Assistant Lecturer Maryam Waleed Khalid, On Sunday, at 10:30 AM, October 11, 2026, in the FAQI TAYRAN Hall.
This study investigates how daily social media exposure influences university EFL students' preference for British versus American spelling in academic writing. By combining survey data with a corpus analysis of student essays using AntConc, the research evaluates how online content consumption directly drives spelling choices and writing consistency. Ultimately, the seminar provides insights for updating EFL instruction to reflect real-world digital language habits.
