Macroeconomic Variables Affecting Youth: Panel Evidence from Ten Arab Countries

کلیة الادارة والاقتصاد

This study examines the macroeconomic determinants of youth unemployment in ten Arab countries over the period 1990–2019 using panel data techniques. The analysis reveals that economic growth has a statistically significant negative effect on youth unemployment, indicating that higher growth rates contribute to reducing youth joblessness. In contrast, population growth and corruption levels are found to have positive and significant effects, suggesting that demographic pressures and weak institutional quality exacerbate youth unemployment. The results remain robust across model specifications estimated using SPSS 22 and EViews 10. Descriptive statistics further show that youth unemployment rates in the sampled countries are substantially higher than previously stated, with several countries recording mean rates above 15%, including Libya (18.87%) and Algeria (18.22%). Overall, the findings highlight the critical role of sustained economic growth, population management, and institutional reforms in addressing youth unemployment in the Arab region.
